Trifle Pudding ,Fruit Trifle recipe

I was planning to make this wonderful dessert during diwali but somehow i postponed it and tried it last week 

 Trifle is a dessert made from sponge cake, custard, mixed fruits and jelly,whipped cream.These ingredients are arranged in layers and topped with tutti fruity,whipped cream, cherries or nuts or chocolate

Surely a  recipe during any  festive season like diwali,christmas,new year party or birthdays or for a sweet surprise to your near and dear one

 It is easy to make and is the perfect ending to a heavy meal." 

Best part is you can make this recipe as per your taste and like .You can make preparation in advance and refrigerate (dont freeze)jelly,custard and whipped cream but cut the fruits only when you plan to make the pudding

In such a case if your cake is handy you will need just 10-15 minutes to assemble trifle pudding 

Ingredients: [Serves – 2]

sponge Cake – 1  [ I had used britannia slice cake ,but you can use any cake of your choice]

Mixed fruits of your choice - banana,apple,grapes,pomegranate,strawberry ,grapes,chickoo

Sugar syrup - half cup
1/4 cup Sugar
1/4 cup Water

Jelly - raspberry /strawberry flavour (use half packet)


Milk - 2  cups 
Custard powder - 2 tbsp 
Sugar - 4 


Transparent wide glass bowl or a tall glass or wine glass OR Small sized glass bowls 


Whipped Cream – 1/2 cup (optional)
Cherry - 4-5
strawberry slices
tutti fruity - 1/2 cup



  • Boil milk, mix custard powder with 2-3 tbsp of warm milk and make a paste. 
  • Simmer and add the custard paste to the boiling milk slowly stirring continuously. After it becomes a little thick, remove from flame. 
  • Cool it and keep it in the refrigerator. Refer my fruit custard recipe for more details.  


Make the jelly as per instructions on the pack. After it cools, set it in a tray and refrigerate it. 

Sugar syrup

boil water and add sugar in a pan keep stirring till sugar  melt completely and boil for a couple of minutes.set it to cool in fridge


Cut mixed fruits into even sized pieces and ,add 1 tsp lemon juice to prevent  to prevent discolouration,mix with a spoonful of and keep it refrigerated 

Assembling trifle pudding

  • Chop cake into small cubes.Take a wide glass bowl or tall glass or individual glass bowls
  • arrange cake cubes as bottom layer and sprinkle sugar syrup on it. Press it well . Next pour the cold custard on top of it and spread it evenly. 

  • Then add the chopped fruits layer and next arrange sliced jelly pieces as fourth pour some custard again
  • now repeat this process starting with cake layer,custard,jelly layer ,fruits and custard again according to the size of your serving bowl/glass normally 2-3 layers would be enough.
  • Top it with  whipped cream, throw some jelly ,tutti fruity ,nuts,chocolate pieces on top of whipped cream finally keep a  cherry over it.
  • Cover each bowl with a wrap and Keep it in the refrigerator for 5-6 hours to set (not in the freezer) 
  • enjoy delicious and yummy Trifle. 

Use your imagination while layering the pudding ,use the quantity of each ingredient as you wish and also sequence the layer as per your liking
